Compensation has been awarded after a man was left with serious injuries when his bike was hit by a car.
Robert Joseph Taylor suffered injuries in the incident when he was just 13 years old. The accident happened back in 2004 in Banstead, Surrey.
Mr Taylor was riding his bike across the A217 Brighton Road when he was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta car. He suffered serious injuries in the incident, including a brain injury.
Mr Taylor was in a coma immediately after the accident and fractured bones in his ribs and jaw. It is the brain injury though that has had a lasting effect on his life. The injury has left him with learning difficulties and affected his memory and concentration too.
Mr Taylor made a compensation claim for his injuries, which has been settled at London’s High Court this week, Your Local Guardian reports. The two parties agreed to settle the claim on a 50-50 liability basis. Despite this, Mr Taylor is still reported to have received a substantial compensation payout due to the severity of his injuries.
The judge in the case stated that he hoped the settlement would make a real difference to Mr Taylor’s life in the future.
