A cyclist, who suffered life changing injuries after being involved in a collision with a car, has been awarded substantial compensation for his injuries.
The Surrey Comet is reporting that twenty one year old Robert Taylor, from Horsecroft, was just thirteen years old when he was thrown from his cycle, after being struck by a Ford Fiesta as he travelled along the Brighton Road in Banstead, close to the Garratts Lane junction.
The accident left Robert in a coma, after suffering devastating brain injuries, a lacerated liver and fractures to his jaw and ribs.
His brain damage caused behavioural and learning difficulties, which affected his performance at school and continue to cause him problems today.
With the help of his mother, Mr. Taylor launched a claim for cycle accident compensation against the driver’s insurers and was awarded a ‘substantial amount’ in damages, at the High Court in London.
The compensation awarded will help Mr. Taylor pay for his care costs both now and in the future, however the exact figure he received remains confidential.
Mr Justice Stuart-Smith, who approved the settlement, stated that the award would help Robert make the most of his tragically changed life.
