Personal Protective Equipment – PPE
Personal protective equipment – PPE – is defined as any piece of clothing or apparatus that workers need to wear to protect their health and safety while at work. Employers are required by law to provide PPE where necessary, and it should be possible to claim compensation if you have been injured because they haven’t. Amanda Cunliffe Solicitors can help you get the maximum amount of compensation possible.

What is PPE?
Many different pieces of kit are classed as personal protective equipment. Some of these are shown below.
- Safety boots
- Ear defenders
- High visibility vests
- Safety harnesses
- Respiratory equipment
If any of this equipment is necessary to undertake a job safely, then it must be provided by the employer. The company should be providing this PPE on a free of charge basis, and provide instructions on how to use it too. If they fail in either of these regards then it should be possible to seek compensation.
If more than one piece of PPE is required then the employer must ensure that the different pieces can be worn together without hindering their effectiveness, and each separate piece should do the job it is designed to do. The employee has a duty to wear all PPE that is provided to them.
Pieces of PPE are designed to prevent all types of injuries including, broken bones, burns, eye injuries, head injuries, lung disease and even deafness. It is used in many different types of jobs and workplaces, especially those that are overly dusty or involve coming into contact with dangerous/toxic materials. They are also used to protect from other dangers, such as the threat of falling debris, electric shocks or poor visibility.
