A gymnast is reported to be making a claim for compensation after suffering a serious spinal injury.
Victoria Abery was injured in the incident at Bury Spectrum Gymnastics Club in Bury St Edmunds back in November 2010. The 16 year old had been a member of the club from an early age and been successful in regional gymnastic competitions.
Now, the East Anglian Daily Times reports that legal papers have been submitted to the High Court in London relating to an accident she suffered at the gym. This accident has reportedly left her with severe spinal injuries.
The legal papers give details about her condition, in which she is noted as being a C5 incomplete tetraplegic. She reportedly suffers from a loss of movement down the right side of her body, and a lack of sensation down her left.
The paper claims that the two parties have agreed a compensation settlement for the accident and the injuries she suffered. This settlement needs approval at the High Court due to the severity and amounts involved. This approval should now take place at a later date.
A spokesperson for the gymnastics club told the paper that the incident was a tragic accident, and wished Victoria all the best for the future.
