A man who was knocked from a cherry picker and fell 30 feet to the ground has won his accident compensation claim. Christopher Cook – a father of three from York – had hired the hydraulic platform to paint the exterior of his York home. During the first accent to begin painting, the platform was hit by a truck causing Mr Cook to fall 30 ft from the platform onto the pavement.
After Christopher had been rushed to hospital, his family were told to prepare for the worst and consider switching off his life-support machine. His injuries were so severe that at one-point Doctors thought Mr Cook was technically brain-dead. Miraculously though he went on to make a full recovery. This despite suffering a fractured skull and brain damage severe enough that he was unable to remember the birth of his son or the accident itself. He was in a coma for almost a month.
Mr Cook was successful in his accident compensation claim against the company who hired him the hydraulic platform after it was fined for breaching health and safety law.
