A man who injured his thumb in a door, is reported to have been awarded £9,131 compensation.
The incident happened at Waterwells Sports Centre in Quedgeley, a suburb of Gloucester. A gust of wind caused an outside door at the centre to suddenly close. This unexpectedly resulted in the man’s thumb being trapped in the door, and he suffered injury. The Citizen reports that he has now received compensation for that injury.
Another claim involving a door but this time at Quedgeley Community Centre is also reported by the paper to be in the process of being settled. This time the door in question was an automatic door, which opens on movement detection before automatically closing again. The door hit the claimants head as it was closing, causing the woman an injury.
The insurance company have reportedly admitted liability for the incident, but the amount of compensation that the woman is to receive has not yet been announced. The automatic door has since had an improvement made to its movement detectors.
A member of the Parish Council stated in the paper that this was the only time such an accident with the automatic door had taken place.
