A man out shopping at a shopping centre in Nottingham had his toe severed, after his foot became trapped in an escalator.
The Nottingham Post is reporting that the twenty four year old man, who has not been named, was shopping in the West End Arcade, in Parliament Street, when his foot became trapped in the escalator.
The emergency services were called and fire-fighters had to dismantle part of the moving stair-case in order to free the man, who had been trapped for at least twenty five minutes, according to eye-witnesses at the scene.
Fire Station manager Tom Clark told the newspaper that the unfortunate shopper had suffered serious personal injury in the incident and there had been a lot of bleeding.
A representative from the East Midlands Ambulance Service, confirmed that the man had lost a toe in the accident.
Once freed he was rushed to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre for emergency treatment and the escalator was closed down while the Environmental Health section of Nottingham City Council, launched an investigation.
A spokesperson for the shopping arcade stated that the situation was being ‘assessed’ and they could not comment further on the situation at this moment in time.
