A 60-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run pedestrian accident after she was hit by an articulated lorry driver who failed to stop.
It’s believed that the woman was dragged underneath the vehicle when she was hit, but the driver carried on. He was however caught by police 15 miles further down the road.
The victim was walking towards Darlington town centre on a Wednesday morning during rush hour when the accident happened. She was waiting to cross the road at a junction.
Although she was treated at the scene of the accident, she was pronounced dead on her arrival to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
The lorry driver will arrested for causing death by careless driving.
