A worker from West Yorkshire, who suffered serious personal injury after being crushed by a reversing truck, has been awarded a six figure sum in compensation.
Fifty four year old Paul Gelder, from East Ardsley, was employed by UPS (Supply Chain Solutions) UK Ltd and was working at a plant in Telford Way, on the Wakefield 41 Industrial Estate, when he was crushed between the reversing truck and a wall.
The Wakefield Express is reporting that Mr. Gelder suffered life changing injuries in the accident and now suffers permanent pain in his legs, hips and back, he also had a metal bar fitted to help keep his pelvic bones in position, his injuries were so severe that it is unlikely that he will ever return to work.
Mr. Gelder made a claim for accident at work compensation and was awarded damages to cover his loss of earnings and the cost of his ongoing care and rehabilitation, the exact amount of compensation he received in the out of court settlement, has not been disclosed but is believed to be a six figure sum.
His employer was fined £25,000 after admitting a breach of health and safety regulations, they declined to comment on the compensation settlement.
